FTP is built on <strong>Cilent-Server<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Architecture<\/strong> and it uses separate connections\u00a0for control and data.<\/p>\n<p>FTP client connects with FTP server with\u00a0normal Username and Password information called <strong>FTP Login details<\/strong>. Following is a complete flow of FTP client &#8211; server connection establishment process.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>FTP client sends a DNS query for domain name to get the FTP server IP address(if you are using ftp.domain.com as FTP hostname).<\/li>\n<li>DNS responds back with\u00a0the IP address.<\/li>\n<li>FTP client and server\u00a0complete\u00a0three way handshake process.<\/li>\n<li>The FTP server then sends a\u00a0220 response to indicate that\u00a0the FTP server is ready to\u00a0accept a login.<\/li>\n<li>The FTP client sends Username through <strong>USER<\/strong> command, and Password through <strong>PASS<\/strong> command.<\/li>\n<li>FTP Server verifies the provided\u00a0login information.<\/li>\n<li>If provided login details are correct, FTP server will in turn sends a\u00a0Welcome message.<\/li>\n<li>FTP client requests a directory\u00a0listing.<\/li>\n<li>FTP server\u00a0transfer the\u00a0requested listing.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After specifying FTP credentials, If FTP user does not have required privileges, you may receive following error message in FTP client:<\/p>\n<p>Status: Resolving address of ftp.xxxxx.com<\/p>\n<p>Status: Connecting to xxx.xxx.xxx.xx:21&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Response: 220 Microsoft FTP Service<\/p>\n<p>Command: USER Administrator<\/p>\n<p>Response: 331 Password required for Administrator.<\/p>\n<p>Command: PASS ***************<\/p>\n<p><strong>Response: 530 User cannot log in, home directory inaccessible.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Error: Critical error<\/p>\n<p>Error: Could not connect to server<br \/>\nIn most cases, this error occurs only when <strong>FTP authorization rules <\/strong>for default FTP site are not set.\u00a0Let&#8217;s see how we can change FTP authorization rules to fix this error.<\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>\nStep &#8211; 1:<\/b><br \/>\nLogin to the VPS via <strong>Remote Desktop<\/strong> connection as an <b>Administrator<\/b> user.<\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>\nStep &#8211; 2:<\/b><br \/>\nOpen <b>IIS<\/b> [<strong>Start<\/strong> -&gt; <strong>Administrative Tools<\/strong> -&gt; <strong>Internet Information Service<\/strong>].<\/p>\n<p><b>Step &#8211; 3:<\/b><br \/>\nExpand <b>Sites <\/b>option from left pane.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Step &#8211; 4:<br \/>\nYou will see a <b>Default FTP Site<\/b> in site list, expand this website.<\/p>\n<p><b>Step &#8211; 5:<\/b><br \/>\nNow, double click on <b>FTP Authorization Rules<\/b> option from the center pane.<\/p>\n<p><b>Step &#8211; 6:<\/b><br \/>\nFrom the right pane, click on <b>Add Allow Rule<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Step &#8211; 7:<\/b><br \/>\nSelect the option of <b>All Users<\/b> and tick the check box of <b>Read<\/b>\u00a0and <strong>Write<\/strong> permission.<\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>\nStep &#8211; 8:<\/b><br \/>\nClick on <b>OK<\/b> button to save the changes and\u00a0Restart\u00a0<strong>Microsoft FTP Services<\/strong>\u00a0to reflect them.<\/p>\n<p>Follow below mentioned steps to restart\u00a0<strong>Microsoft FTP Services.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>\nStep &#8211; 1:<\/b><br \/>\nOpen <b>Services<\/b> [<strong>Start<\/strong> -&gt; <strong>Run<\/strong>\u00a0-&gt; type <strong>service.msc<\/strong> and Hit <strong>Enter<\/strong>].<\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>\nStep &#8211; 2:<\/b><br \/>\nSelect the service named <b>Microsoft FTP Service<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>\nStep &#8211; 3:<\/b><br \/>\nClick on <b>Restart<\/b> link from the left pane option.<\/p>\n<p>Now, try again to login to the FTP account. If everything goes fine, then you should not receive any error while connecting to your FTP account.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 id=\"mt_title\" class=\"title\">Error message when you try to log on to an FTP site that is running IIS 6.0: &#8220;Error: 530 User &lt;UserName&gt; cannot log in, home directory inaccessible&#8221;<\/h1>\n<p>You try to log on to an FTP site that is hosted on a server that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, the Active Directory directory service, and Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0. The FTP site is configured to use &#8220;Isolate users using Active Directory&#8221; mode. However, you cannot log on to the FTP site. Instead, you receive the following error message:<\/p>\n<div class=\"kb_errormsgbody\">\n<div class=\"kb_errorcontent\">\n<div class=\"errormsg\">Error: 530 User <var>UserName<\/var> cannot log in, home directory inaccessible<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>This problem occurs only when a particular domain controller is offline or unavailable.
